Bayelsa politician Tarelayefa calls on APC to rally around Buhari
By Fred Itua Abuja
Ebegha Tarelayefa, aspiring governor of Bayelsa State in the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on party members to rally behind President Muhammadu Buhari in lending the necessary support to ensure the country wins the security challenges it faces.
In a statement released in Abuja, Ebegha said Nigerians, especially APC members, cannot afford to stay away as the country faces security challenges.
Mr. Tarelayefa commended President Buhari for leading the nation in times of turmoil, boosting the morale of security personnel and providing security agencies with the necessary resources to fight terrorism and insurgency.
The gubernatorial candidate of Bayelsa noted with sadness that the insecurity in the country has been politicized to such an extent that a matter of concern like the protection of lives and property is now viewed through the prism of political parties and not of the patriotism.
Speaking further, Mr. Tarelayefa drummed the support of APC members and patriotic Nigerians to join the President in making Nigeria a safe, peaceful and united nation for all citizens.
He said: “Since taking office in 2015, President Buhari has continued to make the issue of security a top priority of his administration. His commitment is visible and I certainly know that Mr. President will not relax his efforts to secure Nigeria.
“But some have decided to turn a blind eye to the great efforts of our president in the fight against insecurity. We the members of APC and of course patriotic Nigerians must stand with President Buhari and give him all the support he needs to protect our nation.
Mr. Tarelayefa warned opposition parties to refrain from politicizing insecurity in the country while calling on patriotic citizens and APC members to support the president in tackling the threat.
“Whatever party you belong to, we need to secure our nation before we talk about politics and power. This is not a problem exclusive to APC or President Buhari, we must unite as a political party and a nation to fight the monsters,” he said.
Bayelsa’s gubernatorial candidate expressed optimism that if everyone is on board, the president will leave Nigerians with a legacy of security, infrastructure development, economic prosperity and social cohesion.
