Farouk Aliyu, former minority leader of the House of Representatives, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has five potential presidential candidates who can defeat the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer. , Atiku Abubakar, in 2023.

Former Vice President Atiku emerged as the PDP’s candidate in the 2023 general election after beating his closest rival and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

In an interview broadcast by TV channelsAliyu listed four of the five APC presidential candidates who he believes can defeat Atiku if they win the ruling party ticket.

  1. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
  2. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
  3. Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi
  4. Former Minister of Education (of State); Emeka Nwajiuba

“We have more than five people in APC who can beat Atiku Abubakar. Amaechi, Bola Tinubu, Emeka Nwajiuba, Vice President Osinbajo can,” he said.

Atiku is not a candidate to ignore

Meanwhile, Aliyu admitted that the DPP candidate is not one who can be ignored given his popularity in the country.

Nonetheless, the former lawmaker said the majority of the APC’s more than 20 presidential candidates can defeat Atiku.

He added:

“We are the ruling party too, we are not going to sit idly by and let these things just happen. We will do our homework to make sure things are done right, that Nigerians will vote APC for what we Have done.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, Atiku, sought support from his rivals in the presidential primary to defeat the ruling APC.

Atiku made the appeal on Wednesday, June 1, after receiving the party’s return certificate at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

According to the former vice-president, his main opponent is the APC and not his co-aspirants in the presidential primary.
